Setting up a local home network can be easy if you take some time to prepare before you jump into the task at hand. Most of my personal setup was done with excess computer equipment we no longer used due to being replaced. You can purchase most of these items cheaply on the internet if you don't already have them readily available. If you have a local internet provider ie: Comcast or FIOS or Hughesnet, you really shouldn't need a setup like this since they can set you up at home during install and provide your main internet connection via wires to your home and they usually provide the equipment. You may also use this setup for a dial-up service, but why the hell are you still on dial-up?

Do-It-Yourself Car Battery Backup UPS

So I've been looking at doing a replacement battery for a APC Back-UPS CS 500. I think a car battery will provide more time when the power is out.
There are a few articles out there about this but I think this one is the best. It's a streaming video show called SYSTM. Good stuff there as well.
